Preorder [mid September] THE 3rd AND THE MORTAL: The 3rd And The Mortal CD

£12.00

A long and detailed new interview about the early days of the band was conducted with the band exclusively for this current reissue. Jewel-case CD with 24-page booklet.

The 3rd And The Mortal's only demo is rereleased for the very first time on LP, CD and tape. The track “Autopoema” recorded at the same time as the other songs but not included on the original demo makes its first appearance as a bonus.

Although based out of Trondheim, Norway and entering the scene exactly when (Norwegian) Black Metal reached its popular peak after having garnered – besides brilliant music – worldwide notoriety for various criminal activities like arson and murder, THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL set out to tread an entirely different path. As one of the first bands which dared to blend Doom Metal`s heaviness with ethereal female vocals and progressive influences – a formula that countless bands would go on to embrace globally – the young Norwegians set themselves apart and carved out their own unique niche from the very start.

After having gained experiences in previous bands and after having initiated THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL one year prior, founding members guitarist Geir Nilssen, guitarist Finn Olav Holthe, guitarist Trond Engum, drummer Rune Hoemsnes and vocalist Kari Rueslåtten were ready to unleash the band`s only demo in 1993.

Recorded in Trondheim in a place called Trøndertun, the same studio where THORNS’ legendary first 2 song demo was created, the demo – albeit in rawer form than on their successive output – features magnificent, timeless music. Both mournful and beautiful the four songs drenched in heavy layers of reverb and with Kari`s enchanting soprano (Black Metal fans also know her as the singer on STORM`s Nordavind album) create an atmosphere of melancholic otherworldliness. The demo`s tracks feature excellent and rather complex songwriting and already showcase all the trademarks THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL would go on to expand upon and refine on their subsequent releases.

Over the years, THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL has influenced countless artists and left an indelible mark on the evolution of atmospheric and experimental Metal.

This lavish rerelease enables you to travel back in time and trace the beginning of this unique band`s journey.
