Released in 1999, Featuring a grandiose cover painting in place of the traditional band photo, plus a new easy-to-read logo, the record also boasted a punchy Peter Tägtgren/ Abyss Studios production and was undoubtedly the most accessible release by the band thus far. A definite shift in musical style had accompanied Abbath’s move from bass to guitar, and Immortal now broadened their sound, embracing more progressive tendencies, and overt thrash influences, as well as melody, mid-paced groove and catchy riffs. A reinvention of sorts, it was extremely warmly received by fans and the press.
